Founded in 1991 by Nancy Boone Allsbrook and Mary Goetze, the Mountain Lake Colloquium for Teachers of General Music Methods is a biennial forum that provides a platform for participants to discuss critical issues, research, and best practices related to teacher education in general music. Our goal is to create an open platform through which we can reflect on our practices and share with our peers in this scholarly community.

We welcome submissions for our 2025 colloquium that speak to the theme of “Expanding Horizons.” This theme supports a broad range of topics in the field of general music education that look to expand the ways we can provide meaningful pedagogy, to examine critical topics related to teacher education experiences in general music, and to explore new avenues for self-reflection, well-being, and mentorship. By embracing diverse perspectives and innovation, the colloquium seeks to empower educators to navigate the evolving landscapes of music teaching with a support network of colleagues.

Session Categories for the Colloquium Include:

Plenary Sessions:  Scholarly presentations for the entire colloquium that are 25 minutes in length and that are unopposed by other sessions.
